Leiden University is offering a scholarship program called the Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) to international students pursuing a Master’s degree in the Netherlands.

Application Deadlines:
- For programs starting in September, the application deadline is February 1 (annual).
- For programs starting in February, the application deadline is October 1 (annual).
Next Course Start Date: February/September 2024
Target Audience: Outstanding non-EEA/non-EFTA students
Exceptions:
- Excludes Leiden Law School’s LLM (non-advanced) and MSc programs.
- Programs start in February at the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Sciences, and Leiden Law School.
Scholarship Types and Values:
- €10,000 of the tuition fee
- €15,000 of the tuition fee
- Total tuition fee minus the statutory tuition fee
Duration: The LExS is not a full scholarship. Non-EEA LExS recipients must still provide “proof of sufficient funds” for their student visa/residence permit application.
Eligibility:
- Must have achieved excellent study results in prior education, typically being among the top 10% of graduates.
- Hold a non-EEA/non-EFTA passport.
- Must not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (study financing), with exceptions mentioned for specific programs.
Application Process:
- Apply online for admission to a Master’s program at Leiden University.
- If you are eligible for the LXS scholarship, it will appear in the scholarships section of the online application system.
- Clearly indicate your intention to apply for the LXS scholarship and submit your letter of motivation for the scholarship.
