The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved the national minimum cut-off mark for 2023–2024 admissions for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The national cut-off mark for universities is 140, while for polytechnics and colleges, it is 100. Institutions can set their minimum UTME score for admission, and for direct entry admissions, each institution determines the required number of points. Candidates whose total score or points is below the minimum set by the institution and approved at the policy meeting cannot be admitted.
All applications for regular and non-regular admissions to tertiary institutions must be routed through JAMB by its enabling law. The meeting also called for a review of admission criteria to give 10% discretional power of admission to tertiary institution heads. Schools will soon announce their post-UTME sales forms and screening dates. The board pegged the cost for post-UTME screening at N2,000, and the board is planning a “Bring Your Own Device” initiative for the Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examinations and Direct Entry Examinations.
