The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) has been running scholarship programs since the 1950s, supporting thousands of students, particularly from host communities.
The objective of these programs is to develop Nigeria’s future talent and promote academic excellence among young Nigerians, particularly those from less-privileged backgrounds. The SPDC invites applicants for the SPDC JV University scholarship, which is open to full-time Nigerian students admitted in the 2023/2024 academic session.
Who Is Eligible to Apply
There are two types of scholarships available: the National Merit Award (NM) and the Areas of Operation Merit Award (OM).
1.) National Merit Scholarship (NM
All Nigerians are welcome.
2.) Merit Award for Areas of Operation, (OM)
For Nigerians from the SPDC operations areas of Abia, Bayelsa, Delta, Imo, and Rivers States.
APPLICANTS WHO ARE ELIGIBLE:
- Citizenship in the Federal Republic of Nigeria is required.
- Students must be enrolled as FULL-TIME undergraduates at a Nigerian university that is authorized and approved.
- Must be at the 200 level or have evidence of acceptance to an undergraduate program in the 2023/2024 academic year.
- Must not be the recipient of any other scholarship from a national or international business active in the oil and gas industry.
General Requirements
- All candidates should have their own legitimate email account (for continuous contact)
- Applicants for Operational Area Awards are needed to present scanned copies of letters of identification,
- which must be officially stamped and signed by: The Paramount Ruler of the Community; and The
- Chairman of the Community Development (CDC) The Chairman of the Executive Council (CEC) or
- The letters should be written to: “The Manager, Social Performance, The Shell Petroleum Development
- Company of Nigeria Limited, Port Harcourt, Rivers State”.
Note- Each document must not exceed 200KB and the picture format must be in JPEG

How to Use
1. All candidates must have a personal legitimate email account as well as a phone number (for constant contact).
2. All applications must be submitted online at https://candidate.scholastica.ng/schemes/NNPCSPDCJV2023.
3. Applicants for Operational Area Awards must provide scanned copies of letters of identification (duly stamped and signed) from the following individuals: the Paramount Ruler of the Community; and the Chairman of the Community Development Committee or Community Executive Council (CDC or CEC).
The letters should be written to the following person: The Manager, Social Performance, The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (Shell), Shell Industrial Area, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
4. Make sure you have clear scanned copies of the following documents available for upload:
a. Passport picture with a white backdrop that is no more than three months old (450px by 450px)
b. School identification card
b. JAMB or University (UTME or D/E) Admission letter f. JAMB result g. State Identification letter (showing Local Government of Origin)
Note – Each document must be no more than 200KB in size, and the picture format must be JPEG.
5. Ensure that the papers are titled according to what they represent to minimize document confusion.
6. When requested to upload documents, make sure you attach them.
