Brookings Grants Internship Program for Students – The Brookings Grants Internship Program for Students is a Paid Internship that is currently accepting applications from highly dedicated, motivated, and brilliant undergraduate and graduate students.
Who is seeking to gain professional learning experience that gives them access to a meaningful, practical work experience related to their field of study or career interest.
This internship program pays an hourly rate of $17.50, and applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (not less than 30-40 hours per week, during regular business hours) with some flexibility around an academic course schedule.

Overview of the Brookings Internship Program
The Brookings Internship Program is an opportunity for degree-seeking students, and occasionally recent graduates, to engage in career exploration and development, as well as a chance to learn new skills.
The mission of the Internship Program is to provide a pre-professional, meaningful, and practical work experience related to the student’s field of study or career interest.
Internships may be within a Brookings research program (e.g., Governance Studies, Global Economy and Development, Brookings Metro, Economic Studies, or Foreign Policy) or one of Brookings’ central business units (e.g., Human Resources, Executive Office, Finance,
Development, Facilities, Communications). The type of work varies by intern position and may include projects related to research, administrative tasks, communications, and more.
Interns are embedded within the day-to-day work at Brookings and alongside the curated learning experiences the intern cohort, they are encouraged to partake in internal and external events, local networking opportunities, social and community programming.
Staff professional development, and may join employee-led professional networks and affinity groups during their internship
Internship at a Glance
All Brookings interns are paid, either by Brookings or via external partnership1coordinated in advance of their start. The typical internship lasts 12 weeks and can be hybrid (located in the DC Metropolitan area; requiring at least one day in the office based on the research program’s or business unit’s schedule) or remote.
Interns are required to be physically located in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
NOTE: Remote interns may NOT work from the following states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington.
Eligibility Criteria
Brookings internships are open to:
▪ Individuals of any background and level of experience
▪ Current undergraduate and master’s students (PhD students are not eligible)
▪ Recent graduates, occasionally
Individual internship postings specify opportunities open to recent graduates
- Individuals selected for a Brookings internship must have graduated within one year before the start of their internship
- International students with a visa status sponsored by their college or university, or are authorized to work in the U.S.
You are eligible ONLY if:
- You have employment authorization
- You are currently in F-1 or J-1 student status and would be applying for (or have applied for) OPT or CPT if selected for a Brookings internship
You are not eligible if:
- You do not have employment authorization
- You do not currently have a visa and would be applying for a visa if selected for a Brookings internship
NOTE: To allow as many students as possible the opportunity to intern at Brookings, current or previous interns are not eligible to intern again.
Responsibilities
- This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in grants administration and contribute to the enhancement of the processes.
- Collaborate with the Central Grants Team on projects to optimize our educational tools and resources.
- Assist in the development of reports, checklists, and other utilization tools for tracking and organizing grant award reporting milestone deliverables and deadlines.
- Create and update existing step-by-step written instruction guides.
- Work closely with team members to ensure effective communication and project coordination.
- Utilize strong Excel skills to analyze and present data relevant to grants optimization

All applicants receive a confirmation email once a complete application is received. In instances where applications are incomplete, applicants are notified via email and are instructed to access their Candidate Profile within Brookings Applicant Tracking System to complete and resubmit their application.
If selected as an internship finalist (this is NOT required as part of the application process), applicants will receive instructions to provide the following:

▪ If the internship is through an external partnership: Written documentation of eligibility (i.e., letter from
